Pro Trail Runner Jennifer Lichter Joins Tailwind Athletes

From guiding hikes in Glacier National Park to becoming a professional and competitive trail runner, Jennifer’s love of the trails and pushing herself runs deep (not to mention inspires some pretty incredible art as well!). We’re happy to have her on the Tailwind athlete roster and can’t wait for her fall racing season!

Welcome to the team, Jennifer! We’re so happy to have you. Can you tell us a little about how you got into trail running?

Trail running has been part of my running career since as early as high school! It was a way that my coach at the time felt he could keep us kids interested in the sport…running through the woods felt more “adventurous” than running through the roads. But I would say trail running became more serious for me after graduating college and becoming a hiking guide in Glacier NP. I felt this sort of calling to explore more after each trip. I was so curious as to where I could go by connecting trails together all around the park. It became a bit of an addiction actually, and my love for running returned in full force (I got a bit burnt out after college.) In a way trail running saved my relationship with the sport!

What do you love most about Montana?

Everything! It feels a bit cliche, but Montana just felt like home right away. Moving to the state was sort of not part of the plan, but when I found myself here in 2019 it just felt right. The sense of space, the mountains, the wilderness, the wildlife, the lakes, the seasons…it felt so remarkable. Montana makes one tough, but then rewards you. We don’t get much sun in the winter and it can be hard for people, but then the summers come around and it’s like the state is giving you the biggest hug. It's hard to describe, but it just feels right to call this state my home.

Favorite Tailwind flavors?

This is hard because I really do enjoy all the flavors out there! But if I had to pick, the Dauwaltermelon and berry flavors are my favorite for endurance fuel drinks. The Vanilla and Strawberry Recovery are actually insane for post run. *INSERT HEART EYE EMOJI*

If you could run (or hike) anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Probably Patagonia or New Zealand! I’ve heard just so many amazing things about those two places and really would love to experience that scenery first hand. Patagonia also just feels so incredibly wild and something about that really just calls to me!

Do you have a mantra you use during your races?

Yes! “You can do hard things”

Who are your favorite running buddies (are they your dogs?!)

Hahaha I love running with friends whenever the opportunity arises, but yes running with my fur children is my favorite. They make me laugh so hard because they are so incredibly stoked (and goofy) to be out there. Through rain, snow, sleet, etc they are just so joyful. It puts a perspective on the whole experience. Like yes, I AM lucky to be out here enjoying nature and moving in a way that I love.

What is a hidden talent of yours? Where can folks find your art?

Many of those that know me know that art is this other passion of mine, so that is one hidden talent if  you don't know me! I have an art page on my instagram bio that I'll post a certain project I’m working on once in a while.

I also feel like I’m a great cook and baker! I really enjoy learning and experimenting in the kitchen, coming up with recipes, and challenging myself to try making something I hadn't before. There’s something beautiful about having the skill and capability to nurture yourself and others around you. It’s really fun haha!
